Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly received by your Gems Bhutan Travels guide. After a brief introduction, begin your scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s charming capital. The journey takes around 1 hour, passing lush valleys, rivers, and traditional Bhutanese houses. En route, stop at the Tachog Lhakhang iron chain bridge for photos and a short walk if time permits. Upon reaching Thimphu, check into your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. You may explore the nearby streets, cafés, or simply relax after your flight.

After breakfast, begin your day exploring the cultural and spiritual highlights of Bhutan’s capital. Visit the Memorial Chorten, a vibrant place of devotion where locals circumambulate throughout the day. Continue to the majestic Buddha Dordenma, offering sweeping views over Thimphu Valley. Meet the national animal at the Takin Preserve, then stroll through the Craft Bazaar to see Bhutanese artisans at work. If it’s a weekend, explore the lively Centenary Farmers’ Market. In the evening, visit the beautifully lit Tashichho Dzong, the seat of the King’s office.

Depart Thimphu for the serene valleys of Gangtey. Your journey begins with a scenic stop at Dochula Pass, where 108 chortens stand against a backdrop of Himalayan peaks. Continue through lush forests and traditional villages before arriving in the breathtaking Phobjikha Valley, a glacial basin known for its peaceful atmosphere and winter home of the rare black-necked cranes. Visit the historic Gangtey Monastery, perched on a hilltop overlooking the valley. Later, enjoy a leisurely Nature Trail walk to experience the pristine alpine landscape.

Wake up to the quiet beauty of Phobjikha and enjoy a short morning valley walk. During crane season (Oct–Feb), you may spot the elegant black-necked cranes feeding across the wetlands. Drive toward Punakha, descending into warmer valleys. En route, visit Chimi Lhakhang, the famed Fertility Temple dedicated to the “Divine Madman.” In Punakha, explore the iconic Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most beautiful fortresses located between two rivers. End with a walk across the Punakha suspension bridge, offering fantastic views and a bit of adventure.

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxing riverside walk or visit the tranquil upper Punakha villages before driving back to Paro. The route takes you through changing landscapes, mountain passes, and charming settlements. In Paro, visit the picturesque Rinpung Dzong and its traditional cantilever bridge, followed by a visit to the National Museum (Ta Dzong) where Bhutan’s history and culture come to life. Later, stroll through Paro Town.

Today is a highlight of your Bhutan journey. After an early breakfast, begin your hike to the legendary Tiger’s Nest Monastery, perched dramatically on a cliff 900 meters above the valley floor. The hike takes 4–5 hours round-trip, with panoramic views, prayer flags, and peaceful forests along the way. Visit the sacred monastery where Guru Rinpoche meditated in the 8th century. Descend at a comfortable pace and return to your hotel. In the evening, enjoy a traditional hot stone bath to relax your muscles.
