Meet Our Founder – Gem Tshering

Gem Tshering, Founder and CEO of Gems Bhutan Travels, has more than two decades of experience in Bhutan's tourism industry. Before establishing the company in 2012, he worked as a professional tour guide and expedition leader for National Geographic Expeditions (GeoEx) and Yangphel Adventure Travel, leading travelers through Bhutan's spectacular landscapes, cultural heritage, and sacred monasteries.

During his guiding career, Gem met Mr. Thomas L. Brunner and Mrs. Kathleen N. Brunner of Massachusetts, USA, whose generous support enabled him to earn an MBA from Eastern University in Pennsylvania.

After completing his studies, Gem returned to Bhutan and held leadership and development roles with the World Food Programme, Save the Children USA, the World Wildlife Fund, the Guide Association of Bhutan, and TashiCell, Bhutan's leading private telecommunications company.

Norbu, Director

Before joining Gems Bhutan Travels, Norbu worked as a chef at Amankora, Bhutan. He is fluent in Chinese and has successfully guided numerous Chinese tour groups throughout the country. Outside of work, Norbu has a deep appreciation for nature and enjoys capturing the beauty of Bhutan’s mountains and valleys through photography.

Neten Wangmo, Operations Manager

Neten, a Bachelor of Arts graduate from Sherubtse College, manages operations at Gems Bhutan Travels. Known for her attention to detail and positive outlook, she brings valuable experience in both management and technology. She joined GBT in 2023.

Karma Dema, Finance Manager

Karma Dema joined Gems Bhutan Travels in 2013 and oversees all financial matters of the company. With a strong aptitude for numbers, she ensures accurate bookkeeping and timely tax filings. Karma holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Gaeddu College of Business, Bhutan.

Sherab Zangmo, Chief Tour Guide

Sherab joined Gems Bhutan Travels in 2015 as the Chief Guide. A TCB-certified tour guide, she has over 10 years of experience in Bhutan's tourism industry and has led numerous international groups across the country, including remote and less-traveled areas. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from a college in India. Beyond guiding, Sherab enjoys reading and writing in her free time.

Rinchen Yangzom, Gems Bhutan Travels staff

Rinchen Yangzom, Adminstrative & Liaison Officer

Rinchen Yangzom joined Gems Bhutan Travels in 2014 and manages the administrative operations of the company. She oversees logistics, transportation, visa processing, and other key administrative tasks, ensuring everything runs smoothly. With a strong attention to detail, Rinchen brings efficiency and organization to her role. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Royal Thimphu College, Bhutan.

Dorji, Driver

Dorji, a high school graduate with over 10 years of driving experience, joined Gems Bhutan Travels in early 2013. As a certified and licensed driver, he ensures the safety and comfort of our guests at all times. Known for his caring and friendly nature, Dorji is consistently appreciated and loved by those he serves.
