Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Paro ➝ transfer to Thimphu

Your Bhutan journey begins with a scenic landing at Paro International Airport, surrounded by dramatic Himalayan peaks. After completing visa formalities, your guide will warmly welcome you and accompany you on a beautiful one-hour drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s modern yet serene capital. Upon arrival, enjoy a relaxed walk around Clock Tower Square and Norzin Lam, known for its cafés, craft shops, and gentle city vibe. Later, visit the Memorial Chorten, a revered stupa built in honor of the Third King. As evening approaches, explore the impressive Tashichho Dzong, Bhutan’s administrative and monastic center, beautifully illuminated after sunset.

Day 2: Thimphu ➝ Punakha Valley

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive over the stunning Dochula Pass at 3,100m. The pass is lined with 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens and offers panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayan range on a clear day. Descending from the mountains, you enter the lush and warm Punakha Valley, known for its fertile landscapes. Visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most beautiful fortresses, located at the confluence of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers. Afterwards, enjoy a gentle walk across the iconic Suspension Bridge, offering great valley views. End your day with a peaceful riverside stroll or a short village walk.

Day 3: Punakha ➝ Paro

Begin your morning with a pleasant 20–30-minute village hike to Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Fertility, dedicated to the Divine Madman, Lama Drukpa Kuenley. After the visit, drive back toward Paro through scenic mountain roads. In Paro, explore the historic Rinpung Dzong, a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture, followed by a walk across its traditional wooden cantilever bridge. Later, wander through Paro town, known for its handicraft shops, tea houses, and welcoming local atmosphere.

Day 4: Tiger’s Nest Hike (Taktsang)

Start early for the highlight of your Bhutan trip—the hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), perched dramatically on a cliff 900 meters above the Paro valley floor. The trail winds through pine forests, prayer flags, and breathtaking viewpoints. Upon reaching the monastery, take in its sacred atmosphere and incredible history. After descending, return to your hotel in Paro to relax, refresh, and enjoy a peaceful afternoon.

Day 5: Departure

Bhutan Tourism Visa & Flight Details

Tourist Visa

All international tourists (except Indian nationals) require a Bhutan tourism visa before arrival. The visa is processed through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator and is approved by the Department of Immigration. Visitors must travel on a pre-arranged package that includes accommodation, transport, a licensed guide, and meals. The government also requires a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of USD 100 per person per night, along with a one-time visa application fee of USD 40 per person. Once approved, a visa clearance letter is issued, and the actual visa is stamped on arrival at Paro International Airport.

Flights to Bhutan

Bhutan is served by two national airlines: Drukair – Royal Bhutan Airlines and Bhutan Airlines. All international flights operate in and out of Paro International Airport, one of the world’s most scenic mountain airports. Direct flights connect Paro with major regional hubs including Bangkok, Singapore, Delhi, Kolkata, Bagdogra, Guwahati, Kathmandu, and Dhaka.

Within Bhutan, domestic flights are available from Paro to Bumthang (Central Bhutan), Yongphula (Eastern Bhutan), and Gelephu (Southern Bhutan), subject to weather and schedule.

Due to limited flight seats and weather-dependent operations, early booking is highly recommended.

How do I enter Bhutan?

You can either fly into the country with Drukair or Bhutan Airlines or enter by road from India.

Do I need visa?

Travelers from all countries except India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives need a visa to enter Bhutan and require approval prior to your actual travel to Bhutan.

Can I get vegetarian meal?

Vegetarian food options are widely available.

Is it safe to travel?

Bhutan is a safe country for travelers with a low crime rate.

What do I need to do before my actual travel?

You should consult your doctor about altitude sickness and other health concerns before traveling to Bhutan.

Plan your trip well in advance as there is limited airline options especially during peak tourist seasons. It will also ensure a smooth visa process.

Do I need to carry cash?

Yes, it's recommended to carry some cash when traveling to Bhutan, especially for small purchases, tips, or in areas where card payment may not be accepted. ATMs are available in major towns, but reliability can vary.
