Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide from Gems Bhutan Travels and begin your journey into the Kingdom of Bhutan. After completing arrival formalities, enjoy a scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s charming capital city. The drive follows the beautiful Pa Chhu and Wang Chhu river valleys, passing traditional villages, terraced farmland, and forested hills.
Along the way, stop at the historic Tachog Lhakhang Iron Bridge, built in the 15th century by the great Tibetan saint Thangtong Gyalpo. This peaceful stop offers a wonderful introduction to Bhutan’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
After lunch, visit, Simply Bhutan for hands-on cultural experience and participate in fun village-style games such as archery and khur (dart) and explore a recreated Bhutanese home, learn about daily rural life, and even try simple activities like pounding rice or butter churning.
In the afternoon, drive to Serbithang Botanical Garden, a peaceful green space showcasing Bhutan’s diverse plant species. A perfect place to enjoy gentle walks, nature exploration, and fresh mountain air.

After breakfast, enjoy a full day exploring Thimphu, one of the world’s most unique capital cities, where tradition and modern life exist in harmony. Begin with a visit to the to the giant Buddha Dordenma statue, overlooking the valley and offering panoramic views of Thimphu.
Later, visit the Motithang Takin Preserve to see Bhutan’s national animal, followed by the visit to Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory which offers a fascinating glimpse into Bhutan’s centuries-old paper-making tradition. Using the bark of the Daphne plant, artisans craft durable, eco-friendly paper entirely by hand. Visitors can observe each step—from soaking and pulping to pressing and drying sheets in the open air. The factory produces beautifully textured paper used for religious texts, manuscripts, and decorative items. After breakfast, depart Thimphu and begin a scenic drive toward the stunning glacial valley of Phobjikha. The journey takes you across the spectacular Dochula Pass at 3,100 meters, where 108 memorial chortens stand against a backdrop of Himalayan peaks on clear days. Take time to pause to walk around the pass, enjoy the mountain air, and admire one of Bhutan’s most scenic viewpoints.
Continue the drive through Wangdue countryside, passing forests, villages, and terraced fields before ascending into the broad valley of Phobjikha, one of Bhutan’s most peaceful regions. This protected wetland is famous as the winter home of the rare Black-necked Crane. Upon arrival, check in and enjoy lunch surrounded by mountain scenery.

After breakfast, enjoy a full day discovering the beauty and culture of Phobjikha Valley. Begin with a visit to Gangtey Monastery, an important Buddhist monastery overlooking the valley. Your guide will explain its spiritual significance and history while you enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
From the monastery, take the gentle and scenic Gangtey Nature Trail, one of Bhutan’s most beautiful walks. The trail passes through pine forests, open meadows, traditional villages, and wetlands, offering excellent views of the valley. This easy to moderate walk allows you to experience rural Bhutan at a relaxed pace.
During crane season, visit the Black-Necked Crane Information Centre to learn about these graceful migratory birds and conservation efforts. Later, enjoy a visit to a local farmhouse, where you may experience Bhutanese hospitality, taste butter tea, and learn about village life.

After breakfast, depart Phobjikha and drive toward the warmer valley of Punakha. Descending through forests and mountain roads, enjoy changing landscapes from alpine meadows to subtropical valleys. The route offers beautiful countryside views and occasional village stops.
En-route start with a gentle and scenic hike to Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Fertility Temple. The walk takes around 30–40 minutes through beautiful terraced rice fields and a charming village, offering an authentic glimpse into rural Bhutanese life. Along the way, observe traditional farmhouses, locals at work, and prayer flags fluttering in the breeze. The temple itself is associated with Lama Drukpa Kunley, the “Divine Madman,” and is a place of blessings, especially for fertility.
Punakha Dzong is one of Bhutan’s most stunning fortresses, set at the confluence of two rivers. Known for its intricate woodwork and grand courtyards, it once served as the country’s capital and remains a spiritual and administrative center, offering a rich blend of history, architecture, and scenic beauty.

After breakfast, begin a rewarding excursion to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten with a scenic moderate hike through terraced rice fields and pine-covered hills. The walk takes about 45 minutes to an hour and offers magnificent views of the Punakha Valley.
Following lunch, visit a peaceful local nunnery such as Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Nunnery perched above the valley, where you can meet resident nuns, learn about spiritual life, and enjoy sweeping views of Punakha and Wangdue.
Thereafter, visit the Punakha Suspension Bridge, one of the longest in Bhutan, decorated with colorful prayer flags and offering lovely river views.

After breakfast, drive west toward the beautiful valley of Paro, crossing scenic mountain roads and passing through forests and villages. Stop again at Dochula Pass if weather permits for another chance to enjoy Himalayan views.
Upon arrival in Paro and after lunch, start cooking class on making Bhutanese dumplings (momos) at Highland Glamping. The cooking class is a warm, hands-on experience guided by local professional hosts. Guests learn to prepare Bhutanese dish like dumpling and ema datshi (chilli and cheese) and buckwheat specialties using fresh, organic ingredients, while gaining insight into traditional techniques and food culture.
In the evening, enjoy the hot stone bath which is deeply relaxing. River stones are heated in fire and placed into a wooden tub infused with medicinal herbs. After breakfast, set out for Bhutan’s most iconic experience — the hike to Paro Taktsang, also known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery. Perched dramatically on a cliffside, this sacred monastery is one of the highlights of any Bhutan journey.
The trail climbs gradually through pine forests decorated with prayer flags and offers magnificent valley views. For those who wish, ponies are available for the uphill section to the cafeteria viewpoint. After a rest and refreshments, continue hiking to the monastery itself. Explore the sacred temples and learn about the legends associated with Guru Rinpoche.
After visiting the monastery, descend at a comfortable pace and enjoy lunch at Taktsang Cafeteria.
For guests who prefer not to hike all the way to the monastery may stop at the Taktsang Cafeteria half way up the trail, which offers wonderful views.
This rewarding day combines spiritual significance, natural beauty, and moderate adventure, making it one of the unforgettable highlights of the journey.
Optional Alternative – Dzongdrakha Monastery (10 km, approximately 25 minutes)
For guests who prefer a gentler alternative to the hike to Paro Taktsang, an excellent optional excursion is a visit to Dzongdrakha Monastery, often called Bhutan’s “Mini Tiger’s Nest.”
After breakfast, drive through the scenic upper Paro Valley to the trailhead, passing traditional villages, apple orchards, and farmland with beautiful mountain views. From here, enjoy a short and relatively easy uphill walk of about 30–45 minutes to the cliffside temple complex. The trail is peaceful and less demanding than Tiger’s Nest, making it ideal for guests seeking a softer walking experience.
Dzongdrakha is dramatically built into a rock face and consists of several sacred temples perched along the cliffs. This hidden spiritual site offers a serene atmosphere, colorful prayer flags, and sweeping views over the Paro Valley.
This optional excursion offers spirituality, scenic beauty, and cultural immersion, while requiring less physical effort than the Tiger’s Nest hike. It is a wonderful alternative for guests who prefer an easier yet meaningful experience in Paro.
